How PnL is calculated, fees included

For spot: (sell price − buy price) × quantity − fees on both sides. When you buy with USDT, the fee comes out of the coins you receive; when you sell, it comes out of the USDT.

The same trade leaves more in your pocket with a referral code, and the gap grows with every trade.

Why am I losing money right after buying?

  1. The fee: you already paid it, so you hold slightly less than you expected.
  2. The spread: market buys fill at the lowest ask, while your balance may be valued at the last price or best bid.
  3. Price moves: it can tick down seconds after you buy.

A −0.1% to −0.3% reading right after a fill is normal. Limit orders cut the fee and avoid crossing the spread.

How to sell on the OKX app

  1. Go to Trade → Spot and choose your pair, e.g. BTC/USDT.
  2. Switch to Sell and pick Limit (your price) or Market (now).
  3. Enter the amount or use the slider, then confirm. You now hold USDT.
  4. Keep the USDT, buy something else, or sell it for local currency via P2P or Express where available.

Can I withdraw money from OKX?

Yes. Your assets are yours: sell to USDT and cash out through the options available in your country, or withdraw crypto to your own wallet. When something seems stuck, it’s usually one of these:

  • Funds are in the trading account or Earn: redeem or transfer to the funding account first.
  • Recent P2P or card purchase: a temporary withdrawal hold can apply; trading isn’t affected.
  • A risk review: follow the in-app instructions or contact live chat.

Anyone asking you to pay a “deposit” or “unfreeze fee” before withdrawing is a scammer. OKX never asks you to send money to a person.

OKX PnL explained: FAQ

OKX profit
and loss questions.

What does unrealized PnL mean?

Profit or loss on coins you still hold, valued at the current price. It becomes realized only when you sell.

Today’s PnL vs total PnL?

Today’s PnL covers today only; position PnL covers everything since you bought. A red day doesn’t mean you’re down overall.

Why doesn’t my average cost match my buy price?

It averages all your buys and may include fees, so it differs from any single fill.

Where is my USDT after selling?

In your trading account. Transfer it to funding before P2P selling or withdrawing.

Is there a fee to sell?

Spot sells pay a normal trading fee, 20% lower with a referral code. P2P has no platform fee.

Do I owe tax on crypto profit?

It depends on where you live. Rules vary widely, so check your local tax authority.
